When many of us think of the ‘funeral’ we tend to think of the entire process i.e. the visitation, the funeral service, the committal service and the reception afterwards. However, the reality is there are two primary aspects to caring for your loved one and they are carried out in two separate functions:
- the first relates to the care of your loved one - this is done by a funeral home and includes transferring the deceased from the place of death, preparing the body, co-ordinating the funeral service and delivering your loved one to their final resting place;
- the second relates to how and where your loved one is finally laid to rest - this aspect is managed by a cemetery which will provide perpetual care for your loved one whether they are buried, entombed, placed in a columbarium or their ashes are scattered within the cemetery.
