Visitation Centres

Dealing with the loss of a loved one or a close friend can be an emotionally painful and stressful time for all involved.  At a time when family and friends should be focused on the fond memories of their loved one, the last thing they need is the added stress of knowing how to get to the next venue. Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries recognized this and established five centres in the Greater Toronto area where all of your funeral needs could be met in one convenient location; the visitation, the chapel service; the interment service and the reception afterwards.

The Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries has created five distinctly unique facilities at Pine Hills, York, Elgin Mills, Mount Pleasant and Meadowvale cemeteries, each providing state-of-the-art funeral service amenities in a bright environment.

The funeral professionals from The Simple Alternative can help you design a service at one of these facilities to meet your particular needs.

What exactly is a Visitation Centre?

A visitation centre is everything a funeral home is with one very important legal distinction, and one significant logistical benefit.

The Legal Distinction

The preparation of the body (embalming, cleaning and dressing) can only occur in a licensed funeral home, and by current Ontario law, funeral homes cannot exist on cemetery properties. Accordingly, for services held at a Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries visitation centre the body is prepared at one of our Simple Alternative funeral homes.

The Logistical Benefit

The introduction of the visitation centre concept allows one to conduct a service in its entirety at one location. The visitation prior to the funeral service, the chapel service, the graveside service and the reception afterwards can all be held at the same address. Funerals are meant to be a time of reflection, remembering a life lived and the start to the healing process. They should not be clouded by unneccessary stresses and time pressures caused by the logistics of getting from one place to another through busy streets.
