Union Position - Temporary Part-time (6 months)
Location: York Cemetery
The Successful Candidate Will be Required to:
- Operate backhoes, trucks and other equipment;
- Participate in regular cemetery operations including interments and entombments.
Days and Hours of Work:
- As per Collective Agreement;
- Monday, Friday and Saturday;
- 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in cemetery operations;
- Gardening, landscape, and/or construction work would be considered an asset;
- You will possess a valid Ontario “G” driver’s license;
- Backhoe experience required.

Assistant Property Manager - Permanent Full-time
Location: Elgin Mills Cemetery, Richmond Hill
The Successful Candidate Will be Required to:
- Assist the Property Manager in:
- Providing work direction to staff;
- Employee relations including any resultant discipline;
- Day-to-day administration;
- Maintaining a high standard of customer service through adherence to corporate standards;
- The monitoring and supervision of employees to ensure compliance with health and safety protocols and policies;
- Maintaining security standards and providing alarm response as require.
- Oversee planning and execution of seasonal projects such as annual planting and Special Care;
- Assess training requirements for new members of the team and ensure that training is provided;
- Participate in the hiring process for both seasonal and permanent employees;
- Actively participate in the annual orientation process for new and returning employees;
- Present a professional image to the public in keeping with corporate standards;
- Communicate with staff and the public to resolve conflicts and facilitate problem solving;
- Other duties as assigned.
Days and Hours of Work:
- Monday to Friday and every other Saturday with time off in lieu of Saturday;
- 40 hours per week.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of turf management, Integrated Pest Management and general tree, shrub and plant maintenance as well as management of annuals and perennials;
- Horticultural degree is an asset;
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and formulate work schedules;
- Demonstrated supervisory/leadership and coaching skills, preferably in a unionized environment;
- Good English written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience working with grass cutting equipment and heavy machinery would be an asset;
- Must have a valid Ontario “G” driver’s licence and clean abstract;
- Computer proficiency in a Windows environment with MS Word, Outlook and Excel.
