Property Service Employee - Temporary Part-time (6 Months)

Location: Meadowvale Cemetery,Brampton

 

The Successful Candidate will be Required to:

  • Operate backhoes, trucks and other equipment;

  • Participate in regular cemetery operations including interments and entombments;

 

Days and Hours of Work:

  • As per Collective Agreement;

  • 3 Days per week, TBD;

  • 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in cemetery operations;

  • Gardening, landscaping, and/or construction work would be considered an asset;

  • Possession of a valid Ontario "G" driver's licence;

  • Backhoe experience required.

Assistant Property Manager - Permanent Full-time

Location: Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto and Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough

 

The Successful Candidate will be Required to:

  • Assist the Property Manager in:

    • Providing work direction to staff;

    • Employee relations, including any resultant discipline;

    • Day-to-day administration;

    • Maintaining a high standard of customer service through adherence to corporate standards;

    • The monitoring and supervision of employees to ensure compliance with health and safety protocols and policies;

    • Maintaining security standards and providing alarm response as required.

  • Oversee planning and execution of seasonal projects such as annual planting and Special Care;

  • Assess training requirements for new members of the team and ensure that training is provided;

  • Participate in the hiring process for both seasonal and permanent employees;

  • Actively participate in the annual orientation process for new and returning employees;

  • Present a professional image to the public in keeping with corporate standards;

  • Communicate with staff and the public to resolve conflicts and facilitate problem solving;

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Days and Hours of Work:

  • Monday to Friday and every other Saturday with time off in lieu of Saturday;

  • 40 hours per week;

  • Position will report to the Manager of Mount Pleasant Cemetery with Assistant Manager duties divided between Mount Pleasant and Pine Hills as required;

  • December through March, this position may be required to support the Heavy Equipment Training program by back-filling for trainer(s) as and when required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of turf management, Integrated Pest Management and general tree, shrub and plant maintenance as well as management of annuals and perennials;

  • Horticultural degree is an asset;

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and formulate work schedules;

  • Demonstrated supervisory/leadership and coaching skills, preferably in a unionised environment;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Experience working with grass cutting equipment and heavy machinery would be an asset;

  • Must have a valid Ontario “G” driver’s licence and clean abstract;

  • Intermediate proficiency of Windows and MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Property Service Employee (Non-Union) - Permanent Full-Time

Location: Duffin Meadows Cemetery, Pickering

 

The Successful Candidate will be Required to:

  • Participate in regular cemetery operations, including but not limited to:

    • Supporting setup and completion of all interments and entombments;

    • Marking foundations, excavating, and levelling;

    • Erecting tents, setting up tables, chairs, curtains;

    • Placing and removing wreaths from cemetery grounds according to schedule;

    • Setting and removing mausoleum crypt fronts for inscription as indicated on work order;

    • Attaching emblems and photoceramics as required

    • Attaching and setting markers on graves as indicated from a work order;

    • Performing niche entombments;

    • Installing courtesy markers and crosses;

    • Tamping and levelling graves for sodding;

    • Ensuring all work meets or exceeds acceptable standards;

  • Perform maintenance and upkeep tasks, including but not limited to:

    • Removing garbage, and ensuring the cleanliness of the grounds;

    • Cutting grass, trimming shrubs, tending flower beds

    • Removing snow and ice from interments, roads, and walkways;

    • Salting roads and walkways;

    • Locating and repairing deficiencies on walls, fences, roads, pathways;

    • Locating and repairing issues with water lines, pipes, pumps, fountains;

  • Clean and perform daily inspections and general maintenance on equipment used, referring mechanical problems to the Manager;

  • Perform disinterments as instructed by Manager;

  • Perform safety inspections, and complete associated paperwork in a timely manner;

  • Perform sundry tasks as assigned by the Manager.

 

Days and Hours of Work:

  • Tuesday to Saturday;

  • 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Qualifications:

  • A valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence and acceptable Driver’s Abstract;

  • Mechanically inclined and ability to perform general maintenance;

  • Ability to operate equipment used to perform duties (backhoe, gators, trucks, tool cat, tamper, etc.);

  • Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labour;

  • Proven ability to follow written and verbal directions;

  • Horticultural background is an asset;

  • Basic knowledge of cemetery operations and by-laws and/or general product and services knowledge is an asset.

  • As per Collective Agreement;

  • Monday, Thursday and Saturday;

  • 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in cemetery operations;

  • Gardening, landscaping, and/or construction work would be considered an asset;

  • Possession of a valid Ontario "G" driver's licence;

  • Backhoe experience required.
