Ashes to Ashes
After the cremation, the ashes can be buried, entombed or scattered.
Burial
With ground burial, cemeteries offer graves, or lots, sized to allow up to two urns. Likewise, the remains can also be buried in a grave that allows casket burial.

Entombment
With entombment, the urn is placed in a niche, which is an aboveground compartment specifically designed for this purpose. A niche may hold one or two urns, or more in the case of a family niche. If outdoors, the niche might feature granite or bronze memorialization fonts. An indoor niche might have a glass front, which allows for the urn to remain visible.

Scattering
Casting ashes into the wind is what you see in a movie. In real life, the remains are more like sand, and pour from a container rather than wisp away in the air. Finding a serene, calm setting is ideal for scattering ashes, such as in a cemetery rose garden, or in a forest or ravine. Ashes can also be scattered at sea, on private property or in any special place. Just be sure to check with local and provincial bylaws first, as ashes are not welcome everywhere.
