Robert McGregor was born on the Old Don Mills Road in 1886 and when he was just 14 entered the market garden business. He served as school trustee, deputy reeve and then reeve of East York Township. In 1926, he was elected as Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for York South. When the new riding of East York was created 7 years later, he won that seat and remained an MPP until defeated in June of 1962. Robert McGregor died on October 25, 1965 at the age of 80. An East York School is named for this prominent citizen.
