Section 4, Lot 597
Beechwood Cemetery, Vaughan

George Boncheff, Sr. died on September 23, 1989 as a result of complications from kidney and heart failure. He was 83 years old. Born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria on October 21, 1905, Mr. Boncheff immigrated to Canada in August, 1930 and went to work doing track maintenance on the Canadian Pacific Railway. But “plants were what he loved and gardening was what he did best,” according to his son, George Boncheff, Jr. So he started doing market gardening and raising fruit in the Cooksville area of Mississauga. He raised fresh vegetables in Etobicoke and sold them to restaurants and area residents. In 1945 he founded Boncheff Greenhouses. Later, he gave gardening advice to customers and friends at the greenhouse and garden centre located on Olivewood Road.
