Dr. Aminul Haq

his colleagues in the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Toronto Western Hospital, Dr. Haq increased the lab’s productivity 100% after being appointed director in January, 1987. One of his specialities was stretching the walls of narrow arteries on the surface of the heart, thus reducing the need for a bypass. Born and raised in Lucknow, India, Dr. Haq immigrated to the United States in 1972. He earned a PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Ohio, and his MD from the University of Miami before moving to Toronto in 1972. A cardiologist at Mount Sinai Hospital from 1982, Dr. Haq was appointed co-director of the coronary intensive-care unit at Toronto General Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital in July, 1987.
