Herbert Sanderson died in Queensway General Hospital on September 15, 1985 after a long battle with heart disease. He was 62 years old at the time. Born in London, England, he came to Canada with his family while still a small child. When he left school, he worked for a time with Brink’s Canada Ltd. as a guard. During this time he made many contacts with members of the Toronto Township (later Mississauga) police department. In 1951, he joined the force, which later became a part of Peel Regional Police. Sanderson rose to the rank of staff sergeant while with the Peel force. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Peel Regional Police Association. Following his retirement in 1979, he and his wife moved to Florida, but returned to Canada in 1984 when his health began to deteriorate.
