Plot G, Section 4, Lot 6
Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto
Born in Wallacetown, Ontario in 1858, Thomas Urquhart attended the local public school until the age of 13 when he quit his studies and joined his father’s tailoring business. Eventually, Urquhart returned to his studies and in 1886 graduated from Osgoode Hall as a barrister and solicitor. In 1892, he became a partner in a Toronto law practice with his brother Daniel. In 1900, Urquhart was elected alderman for Ward Four, a position he held until elected mayor in 1903, being returned again in 1904 and again in 1905. Urquhart then tried his luck provincially, only to be defeated on three separate occasions. Thomas Urquhart died from complications brought on by the dreaded influenza on February 16, 1931.
