William Brookman
Plot B, Section 12, Lot 3
Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto
This unique memorial with its anchor motif marks the final resting place of the Rev. William Brookman who was born in England. In the late 1840s, he arrived in Toronto after a number of years in the East Indies. He became an ordained Church of England minister, but left the Church to set up his own Church of the Baptised Believers. On his request, the Church of the Baptised Believers was dissolved upon his death, which occurred at 43 Charles Street East on April 2, 1907. The anchor carved on the headstone symbolises Brookman’s long tenure as chaplain to the Navy Veterans.
