Frank Desmond Reid

Frank Reid was born in Ottawa on July 11, 1916. He graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston with a doctorate in music. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Kingston and was later transferred to a Royal Air Force squadron overseas as a navigator. He served in that capacity on bombing missions during World War II. After the war he moved to Toronto and worked for many years as a professor of music at the University of Toronto. When he retired, he continued to teach on a voluntary basis at Toronto public schools. He also taught, for a while, at Mason’s Music ’75 on Eglinton Avenue West. Frank Desmond was 69 when he died of heart failure on December 18, 1985.
