Ella May Robinson

Prospect Cemetery
An increasing number of Canadian women successfully campaigned for public office in the second quarter of the 20th century. Among them was May Robinson, who served as trustee for Ward 6 on the Toronto Board of Education from 1938 -139, and from 1943 – 1950. In 1952 she was elected Alderman for Ward 6 in the city, and was a member of Toronto City Council until 1964. As was typical of the era, her name appeared on official records as “Mrs. George E. Robinson” – with or without her Christian name in brackets.
