The first person to be interred in Prospect Cemetery, was Elizabeth Shields, daughter of William Shields whose 105-acre farm was purchased by Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries in 1887, to become Prospect Cemetery. Elizabeth was purportedly a very fine horsewoman. Originally buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, her remains were removed and re-interred in Prospect on May 17, 1890.
