From May, 1942 until September, 1945 Robert McCabe was a major with the Irish Regiment of Canada. As aide-de-camp to General Charles Foulkes, commander of the First Canadian Corps, he was present as Foulkes accepted the unconditional surrender of the Germans when Amsterdam, Holland was liberated on May 5, 1945. He died on August 22, 1988.
