Born near Surrey on the outskirts of London, Anne Elkin received her formal teacher training in Britain before moving to Canada in 1958. She earned a degree in physical education and later specialised in early childhood education. Mrs. Elkin joined Toronto’s Huron Play School (a downtown nursery co-operative) in 1976, and was its only full-time teacher. The school is jointly run by a director and a team of parent staffers. Anne Elkin died unexpectedly at her home on October 21, in 1985 at the age of 51.
