1. Why would I pre-plan?
MPG has been offering pre-paid, pre-planned funeral arrangements for decades. This means that arrangements have been finalized in advance and money is exchanged to initiate the contractual obligation once the death has occurred in the future. Many choose this option for various reasons: financial planning, easing the emotional and logistical burden on loved ones, or simply ensuring their personal wishes are honoured. We provide a range of transparent and flexible pricing options to suit different needs.
2. Is the amount that I pre-pay actually the final amount or will I have to spend more money in the end?
Clients who choose to make pre-paid arrangements don’t have to worry about making additional payments in the future due to potential price increases as a result of inflation or other market and economic fluctuations. While costs for funeral arrangements and related products or services can increase over time, MPG will honour the original payment amount(s) of a pre-paid arrangement. Increases or changes to government taxes and fees that occur after the original contract, however, would still apply. Changes made by family members, such as product or service upgrades, could also impact the original contract. Our pre-paid arrangement contracts also outline conditions for refunds of pre-payments.
3. While you say these arrangements are a way to save money and alleviate, ahead of time, the burden and stress family members may feel when a loved one has passed, how do I know my money is safe and that I will receive “tomorrow” the service that I pay for today?
Our services adhere to the highest standards set by provincial legislation and are regulated by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO), offering a level of security and peace of mind that exceeds that of other provinces in Canada. The BAO ensures that all operators are compliant as per the regulatory requirements set out in our legislation, Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 (FBCSA). The funds are trusted in accordance with the FBCSA for the duration and only accessed when the funeral services are performed. More information about pre-paying and customer protection can be found starting on page 17 of the BAO’s Consumer Guide.
