Governance
Governance That Puts Families and Communities First

MPG is a not-for-profit corporation made up of two like-minded organizations, Mount Pleasant Group of Cemeteries (MPGC) and Canadian Memorial Services (CMS). MPGC takes care of our cemetery operations, while CMS is the funeral side of our business.
Like all cemetery and funeral companies in Ontario, we are regulated by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO), an arm’s-length government agency responsible for ensuring compliance, protecting the public interest and upholding professional standards across the sector. In addition to meeting all regulatory obligations, we are committed to going beyond the minimum – embedding accountability, transparency and ethical leadership into every aspect of our organization.
We place the utmost importance on strong governance. From day-to-day operations to financial disclosure, and from clear, accountable decision-making processes to our long-term commitment to self-sufficiency, sound corporate governance is the foundation of everything we do. Both MPGC and CMS are overseen by an elected Board of Directors who bring independent oversight and a deep sense of duty to the communities we serve.
In fact, in our five-year Strategic Plan, “Putting Clients First,” that takes us until 2030, one of our six foundational pillars is Strong Corporate Governance. Accountability, transparency and ethical leadership will continue to underpin MPG’s commitment to its stakeholders, ensuring long-term success.
At MPG, we know that trust is earned. That’s why we’re committed to doing things the right way for the families we serve, the communities we’re part of and the future we’re building. Through responsible stewardship, thoughtful leadership and a client-first mindset, we’re honouring our legacy while shaping a stronger, more transparent tomorrow.

By-laws don't just apply to our cemeteries – they guide the operations of our entire organization.
