Kiriakos “Jerry” Kiriakou
Section S, Lot 147
Pine Hills Cemetery
Kiriakos “Jerry” Kiriakou immigrated to Canada from Greece in 1951. He worked 70-hour weeks washing dishes to save enough money to bring his wife, Peggy, and his children to Canada. Working together, the family saved enough money to establish a restaurant. With sons Tony and Thomas in charge, they took over the restaurant in the Wexford heights Plaza in May, 1958, and built it into a neighbourhood institution. Through three generations of ownership, the restaurant has expanded to 300 seats. A dining lounge was opened in 1983 and named in honour of Jerry. A residential street near Lawrence Avenue and Kennedy Road has been renamed in honour of the family. Jerry Kiriakou died at the age of 83 on May 6, 1994. He is buried with his wife, Peggy, who died in 1989 at the age of 78. Also buried in this lot, is Thomas who died in August 2017.
