Prospect Cemetery
Ernest Clark was a dedicated volunteer. A publicist who ran his own public relations firm — Specialised Promotional Events Ltd. — Clark gave unstintingly of himself to the community-at-large. A former cub master at Mount Dennis United Church and former president of the North York branch of the Red Cross, Clark also did voluntary work with Big Brothers (he helped to organize the Bowl for Millions event which is one of the organisations major fund-raisers), the Canadian Cancer Society, the Inner City Angels and the former Miles for Millions Run. He was founder and served as president of Canadiana Search and Rescue (Canadiana Communications) whose members helped in searches for missing children, but later turned more to providing a communications link for a wide variety of charitable events, and to assisting police and firefighters in crowd control. They also operate a van that goes to fires and serves coffee and sandwiches to firefighters. They were called upon to help with the 1979 Mississauga train derailment which forced the evacuation of 240,000 residents. Clark and his son, Carl, worked round the clock at the disaster scene. A victim of cancer, Ernie Clark died on March 13, 1988.
