York Cemetery and Funeral Centre – North York
Welcome to York
Safety reminder at our cemeteries: Our cemeteries collectively offer valued green spaces and a vast tree canopy, serving as an important ‘carbon sink’ in urban environments. They also include one of the largest arboretums in Canada. We are so fortunate to have all this beauty in our midst, but that kind of beauty takes expert care to maintain. Our dedicated arborist team has noticed an increase in people approaching them while they’re actively working with chainsaws and wood-chippers. Approaching workers during active tree work can be startling and potentially dangerous. While we understand tree work can be fascinating to watch, please respect all safety barriers and signage while visiting our cemeteries. These setups are in place to protect both the public and our staff. If you have questions or concerns, please direct them to the cemetery office.

- Upright Monument Grave: A single grave that permits an upright monument and allows for up to two caskets and four cremated remains (subject to interment rights agreement).
- Larger Burial Lots: Two or more graves that allow for the placement of a custom upright monument, ideal for families or those seeking additional space.
Cremation Interment

For those who choose cremation, York Cemetery offers a variety of dignified and lasting memorial options in a peaceful, landscaped setting. Families can select from beautifully designed outdoor columbariums and cremation burial plots that provide a meaningful place for remembrance and visitation.
- Solar and Geothermal Powered Columbaria
Located in the Garden of Remembrance, these four innovative facilities are Canada’s first columbaria powered by solar and geothermal energy. They use an underground “earth loop” to regulate indoor temperatures year-round, while roof-mounted solar panels generate electricity for lighting and climate control. Three buildings feature elegant granite-fronted niches on the exterior and glass-fronted niches inside, offering environmentally conscious and visually striking memorial options. Our newest columbarium, opened in 2023, sits just inside the gates of Beecroft Rd. and features a large custom mosaic by a local artist with space for over 4,000 glass-fronted niches. We are the first cemetery in Ontario to use geothermal power! - Garden of Remembrance
This tranquil area features a meandering memorial stream inspired by a Scottish burn, surrounded by mature landscaping and granite memorial boulders. Wooden bridges are flanked by Britts blue granite columbarium niches. Additional urn spaces are available throughout the garden, accommodating either flat granite markers or upright monuments. Each niche front can be inscribed to create a personalized tribute.
Veterans’ Section
York’s dedicated veterans’ section honours Canadian and Allied veterans and their spouses. In recognition of their service and sacrifice, interment rights in this section are offered at a reduced cost.
